Annulment in Oklahoma
By: Robertson Cornell ©2008
Annulment is a legal process by which the Court declares a marriage to be a nullity. In other words, the Court sets aside the marriage as though it never existed in the first place.
In Oklahoma, legal grounds for annulment have to do with the capacity of the parties to enter into the marriage in the first place. For example, people who are under legal age or lack the mental capacity to consent to marry may be able to have their marriage annulled. A marriage can also be annulled on grounds of fraud. It is not legal grounds for annulment, however, that the parties have not consummated the marriage through sexual relations with one another or that they have only been married for a short period of time.
